Twitter

My wife will never get tired of telling me how stupid Twitter is. In some ways I agree, and in other ways I think it is absolutely amazing. I think it's just like anything else - it depends on how you use it (that's what she said).

I don't think that anyone that followed us on Ragnar LA would disagree with me when I say that Twitter more than served its purpose during the race. The feedback I have received from the people that followed us has been just awesome. I've even had a good time going back and re-living our experience through the tweets that were sent by the Chasquis.

I think that's what Twitter is for.

Of course, as is the case after any maiden voyage, there are some things I would have changed. First off, it seemed like every time one of us posted the time of day, Twitter would say it was actually an hour earlier than what we posted. No changing that, I guess.

There are only a couple of things I would do differently next time (oh yes, there will be a next time):
  • I will either sign all my tweets "JB" or begin them all with "Van 1" or "Van 2", depending on which one I'm in. What really made Twitter work was the fact that so many Chasquis were tweeting during the race. It was so cool! The problem was that, at times it was hard to determine who was tweeting and from which van. We'll be better identified next time, so that people can follow along easier.
  • I will try to use Twitpic more. Obviously the camera on my Blackberry doesn't take the most amazing photos. Nonetheless, I think it got the job done. The problem was that once we arrived at the starting line, my pictures were no longer uploading to twitpic, and it remained that way for the rest of the race. Again, not much I could do about it, but I will certainly keep trying.
That's all I've got! In the end, Twitter receives an A++ for its service during Ragnar LA.

Yes, in general, Twitter is still stupid, but, I did enjoy reading the Tweets when I woke up to feed Tally at 4 am Saturday morn. :) And yes, signing a name or something is a GREAT idea!
