Important matters first. DeEtte, I know I haven't met you...yet. We share common blood anyhow. Wanted to pass along well wishes and hopes for a speedy recovery. You know, I think DeEtte gave me a good idea. If I break my jaw, I wouldn't eat Dryer's Summer Peach Pie ice cream, or 7-11 apple fritters (my personal kryptonite), or huge bowls of Honey Comb cereal. I might get down to 175 lbs and be lean and mean.......MIGHT?! Anyway DeEtte, if you read the blog, know we hope the recovery is quick and you can join us in another Ragnar effort.
Tomorrow I am racing the Lake LV Triathlon. It has been 24 years since I last raced a triathlon. I was a swimmer on a relay when I was 17, I'm not counting that. I was 16. We started the swim at Calville Bay Marina. It was the 2nd US Olympians LV Tri. Big money purse so the top pros were there. I came out of the water 2nd behind Djan Madruga, a Brazilian Olympian and All American at UCLA, plus at least 4 yrs my senior. We cycled into LV where T1 was at Cashman Field. Along the barren desert into LV I became star struck. I don't remember the order, but Mark Allen, Scott Molina, Mike Pigg all BLEW by me like I was standing still. Quite an honor still to this day. Yhose guys were Triathlon Royalty back them. Google their names and look at palmares. I remember finishing the run inside Cashman Field and promptly puking my guts up. Must have been a good effort.
.....Ffw 24 years and I am a little nervous to race tomorrow. I swim well, run descent, and bike pretty well. Put em all together and who knows. I love to compete, not neccessarily against anybody but against myself. I love to see how far I can push this body of mine. Also can't wait to compete along side my 14 yr old son who is a swimmer on the Chasqui relay JB put together. Just wish I could actually watch him. Probably be in the water at the same time. T-Bone, I'll look forward to hearing about it from you. Chasqui JB, Chasqui Nick, Chasqui Tristan, Game On! We got this! Shoot over to the Chasqui blog next week for some race reports and hopefully some good pictures.
