Multigen Splash n' Dash

ahaha. to start this off i would just like to say how awesome summer. it's so awesome that i can't even keep track of which days are which. so that being said, i forgot the date of this race.

this was my first ever competition solo. i had done the chasqui LLVT as a relay and that was the extent of my solo athletic experience. so i thought this would be pretty interesting.

background: during the course of the year us swimmers on team rebel do whats called dryland. this consists of running for 10-20 minutes depending on how nice our coach is feeling and then doing 8 different sets of ab workouts 30 times eg. 30 leg lifts, then maybe 30 situps, and so on until you've done 8 different things. this dryland was the very source of my running. i had never run willingly before for exercise until dryland. and since las vegas is so ridiculously hot in the summer we stopped running in mid april. so until this race i had not ran at all for about 2 months. and im quite positive that all you chasqui runners that read this know that this is not good at all. i dont think any background is needed on the same because i always tear that up.

so its 5 30 AM on the morning of race day. dad comes and wakes me up and we get our running shoes, some towels, the always necessary gatorade, and our sexy speedos. then we head off to jack in the box. my dad being much wiser and more experienced than me had some granola at the house, but i thought nah, i always have either jack in the box or mickey d's before a swim meet so i thought it would get me through. hehe well jack had other ideas. we arrive at multigen and claim our transition spot. we hang out here and then they open up the pool for warmups. in we go. i think i did maybe a 600 for warmup. then we hung out at the wall until the 7 30 start time. the coordinator began the countdown, we all assumed our starting positions, and then there was a simultaneous push off as everyone began their 1000 yard swim. the swim was by far the easier of the two activities. and it was short course yards. after swimming for at least 3 months in long course meters i felt crazy good swimming. finished the 1000 right behind my dad and then ran over to get my shoes on. it is really hard to put socks on when your feet are wet. so i got my shoes on after some struggling and took off for the three miles that i thought would go alot better than they did. the first mile and half i was doing fine. i was feelin good. and then i turned around and started the uphill... and this is year good ole jack makes his appearance. he thought it would be fun to bounce around in my stomach and make me feel sick. so to try and calm jack down i walked... i know i know... i walked. and i walked alot of the uphill. so i at least try and finish strong and run into the transition area and just as i get there my dad is hoppin out of the pool. i rip off my shoes and socks, don my goggles and hurry over to the closest open lane. i jump in and start swimming. swimming after you just ran is the weirdest sensation ever. it feels like you're trying to swim through jello. i hurry up the swim and jump out at just a few seconds after 50 minutes. i had no goal coming into this other than just do it, but while i was swimming i looked at the clock and decided i would aim for under 50 minutes. that gave me roughly 7 minutes for the 500. i knew i could do it if i hurried so hurry i did and i just barely missed it. i am definitely happy with the outcome though, i just hope on the next one i'll be able to run better haha. so there it is. thats my race write up, hope you enjoy. and as just a little sidenote: my legs have never ever been so crazily sore before
