Del Sol 2009- Morgan

Let me throw this idea out there for all who ran Del Sol over the weekend. I know how my 3 legs played out. I have a partial understanding of how the legs went for those 5 others who where in Van#2. I have no idea or understanding of how anyone did on their legs from Van #1. So.......

....How 'bout EVERYONE do a race re-cap, leg by leg. I think it is an awesome idea, so much so, I think I'll start it off.

Pre-Race Anticipation

The week leading up to Del Sol, a ton of undeed worry fills my mind. Have I trained enough? Did I pack all I needed to? What is the weather going to be like? And a myriad of other useless thoughts taraveling around in that head of mine. I didn't sleep particularly well the night before in Prescott. (sorry JB for keeping you awake) I wake up in the morning, get totally stoked for the start, adrenalin is flowing, I'm ready to kick some ass, anyone's, everyone's! And then I find myself standing along the barriers yelling for Chasqui Trent to kick some ass, anyone's ass, everyone's ass! Wait a second, I'm still standing here. WTH!
Well Van 2 cruised to Wal Mart to pick up a football to play with while we waited on Van 1 who were already running this thing. By the way, Team Chasqui, if we ever ditch the Ragnar/running thing and switch to team flag football, Bree and Lexi provide us with our own QB drama. Girls have arms!!! After almost ending up in Phoenix on our way to the first van exchange we arrive in Kirkland. After hanging out next to the Beavers for way tooooooo long, it was such a welcome to hear the exchange volunteers announce the team 100 was 100 yards out. Yes, Van 2 is now in the game. Go Sandy!

Leg 1- 6.7 miles

I was so ready to run I couldn't stand it! Lexi smoked her first leg and literally had to throw the hand brake to slow down for the pass off. I was off. I felt great, rested, legs felt awesome, strong. I look at the Garmin, 6:40 pace. WTH! I gotta slow down, way too fast. I'll have to pay the price for this pace later (see leg 3). First mile is 7:06. Ah hell, I'm gonna be in trouble, wait, I feel great. Stride is long, legs feel super. Second mile is 7:08! That's not slowing down. Cool, I'm going to PR for a 10k!! Except I still have 2 more legs to do in the next 24 hours. I finally slow down to a very comfortable 8:10 pace. I've managed to pick off a few teams ahead of us. I'm enjoying the beautiful Arizona desert and the perfect running weather. Warren has hopped out to pass along some liquid refreshment and I almost miss the hand off. I'm busy watching 2 air force jets maybe 1500 feet off the deck, screaming over the desert. I dig that stuff, anyway......
Leg one comes to completion. I felt great and glad I was finally contributing to the team effort. Avg over 6.7 miles was 8:12.

Alright guys I have to work, legs 2 and 3 will be posted tomorrow morning. Get your stories ready and post about your legs. Everyone has to post, yes HAS to, MUST post.
