We can thank the elected jerk-offs in Malibu and Newport Beach for not only extending the distance of Ragnar SoCal, but for significantly decreasing the miles we get to run along the coast. Click here to see the new maps.
I know that the majority of you probably have a giant "WTF?" running through your heads right now, and I wish there was more I could do about it other than remind you that we still have nearly two months of training time available to us and that that is plenty time to prepare yourselves for whatever your new distances are.
At the same time, I am of the belief that there are certain people cut out for certain distances. I, for example, start to get a little nervous with anything over 6 miles, but that's just me. If anyone is extremely uncomfortable with their new distances, please let me know and we can try to work something out. By the same token, if you are running one of the shorter distances and are physically capable of taking on a few extra miles, please let me know. Working together as a team and bearing each other's burdens is where the Chasqui spirit really shines through.
That being said, I am currently runner 11. My legs are 7 miles, 3.4 miles and 3.8 miles, respectively, for a total of 14.2 miles. Am I stoked about my new 7- mile leg? No way. Am I happy with 14.2 cumulative miles? Absolutely. But that doesn't matter. If there is ANYONE that has gotten stuck with a distance you don't think you can handle, let me know. Runner 11 is yours. We'll switch it up (and yes, I am fully aware of the new distances that are out there).
Time for everyone to Chasqui Up!!
